A crime reporter with a history of schizophrenia is assigned to cover mysterious disappearances of young men in Cornwall. But when news of her condition leaks, she heads to Cornwall to prove everyone wrong, only to discover the disappearances might be uncannily related to the local folktale of a mermaid.
